Philia is an Electronic musical fairytale about slut shaming. Based on the short story Philematophilia by Traci Chee, the story follows Helena, a teenage girl whose magical power is that anyone she kisses experiences a glorious transformation: frog becomes prince, beast becomes man, nerd becomes popular soccer jock. Chrysalis is a solo tragicomedy at the crossroads of grief and growing up. Using puppetry, music, comedy and a general sense of whimsy, this piece was intended to bring to light some of the aspects of grief that are rarely spoken about; the humor, the unexpected discoveries and the pathways to healing. Written and performed over several years and selected as part of the New York International Fringe Festival, the performance ultimately evolved into a short film called The Grief Party.
